The Health Research Institute (HRI) at Michigan Technological University is a thriving hub for cutting-edge, interdisciplinary health research. With 59 members from 14 academic departments, the HRI tackles a wide range of health-related challenges, from developing advanced wound care materials and creating new vaccines to studying the effects of alcohol on the nervous system and designing innovative medical devices. The institute's mission is to establish and maintain an environment that promotes translational, interdisciplinary, and convergent health research, while also inspiring educational and outreach activities. As part of the HRI, the Translational Health Engineering Research Center (THERC) aims to become a nationally recognized research hub, fostering collaborations with industry, researchers, and clinicians to enhance external funding and accelerate research that improves human health. Through a cooperative research community, THERC sponsors activities to advance community health, graduate fellowship programs, and a robust faculty mentoring initiative.
